When Covid change our lives by eliminating all gathering, pow wows, conferences ( educational, chief, or any treaty meetings here in Edmonton. Mom and I are Metis here in Alberta. Mom was born and raised in Lesser Slave Lake, a small community in Northern Alberta. She comes from a family rich in cultural traditions, her father was a proud fisherman and their family lived off the land.
At the age of 9, mom learned to sew which commenced her creative journey and love for traditional crafting. She incorporated elements of her traditional values and teachings, cooking and crafting into her community classes and healing groups. She continues to share her stories and knowledge to others through programs like Indigenous Women in Leadership at the Banff Centre.(2015)
