Grand Rapids Wilderness Adventures

Thank you for your interest in experiencing one of Western Canada’s most unique, exciting and exclusive wilderness adventures available. Every one of our trips allows our guests to take in amazing history, travel through miles upon miles of pristine, untouched wilderness, and to view incredible wildlife, amazing scenery, and natural wonders. Each adventure begins with a journey of more than 200 km down the historic Athabasca River, to reach the Grand Rapids Wildland Provincial Park, and home to one of Alberta’s most remote wilderness back-country lodges.  The park takes its name from the Historic Grand Rapids, located just a few miles below our lodge. This unique set of remote and awe inspiring Class VI rapids are unlike any you will find elsewhere on the planet. It’s a one of a kind wilderness paradise, steeped in history and  filled with natural wonders, and rugged beauty. It’s a place where few people tread in the very heart of the Great Northern Boreal Forest. 
 Once guests arrive they enjoy their stay in a quaint open concept log cabin. The cabins offer comfortable beds, and crackling wood stoves, a dining table and chairs for socializing and gathering, and a covered deck for lounging.  Occasional WIFI (not encouraged) and intermittent generator supplied power is also available throughout the day and evening. Guests will also enjoy great home cooked meals, freshly prepared in our central kitchen and served up in our dining area. Off the dining area is an enclosed naturally lit sitting area overlooking the river; a great place to read, play games, socialize or take in some peaceful relaxation surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. Fresh rainwater is collected to provide running water in the central “rain-room” for comforting hot & cold showers and washing up. Other amenities include a  large central fire pit and gathering area, clean and well maintained outhouses, an open large grassy area that offers the opportunity for many fun outdoor activities available for our guests to participate in. And of course miles upon miles of untouched wilderness in every direction. Perfect for quiet nature walks, viewing the local wildlife, reconnecting with nature, and providing great hiking opportunities.
